Advanced & Glitched Logic

Glitched Logic is a different set of logic files to the normal Glitchless Logic files. These take into account a massive amount of tricks, glitches, clips, etc. for placement of items throughout the world. This option is a somewhat middle ground between the Glitchless Logic, which expects only what the player can normally perform with no special knowledge, and No Logic, which randomly places items throughout the world without regard to potential softlocks. This set of logic files was designed around the no IM/WW ruleset.

Additionally to bridge the gap between enabling glitches, and staying within the speedrunning equivalent to Glitchless, several tricks for the GGJ (Glitchless + Ground Jumps) ruleset were included with this update. With no tricks enabled, the logic files mirror glitchless logic and can be treated as a gradual transition into learning more advanced techniques as the player becomes more comfortable with different techniques.

No IM/WW Ruleset

No Item Manipulation or Wrong warp, commonly abbreviated No IM/WW is a ruleset originating from the speedrun community of Ocarina of Time. It has evolved over the years from its humble beginnings and has changed names many times. The name currently comes from the two major categories of glitches which are banned by the ruleset: Item Manipulation and Wrong Warping.

Item Manipulation

This is an umbrella term for 3 glitches in particular which can be used to effectively hack items into your inventory or HUD. These 3 glitches are Bottle Adventure (BA), Reverse Bottle Adventure (RBA), and Get Item Manipulation (GIM). These glitches can allow you to write medallions straight into your inventory, give yourself a Hammer on B even if you don't have one in the inventory, and even turn a Recovery Heart into Light Arrows, just to name a few examples. The overarching power of these glitches to circumvent gameplay is why they are banned.

Wrong Warp

The Wrong Warp is probably the most famous glitch in Ocarina of Time as it is the crux of the any% route, allowing the player to instantly teleport themselves from Gohma's Boss Room straight to the Collapse sequence following the Ganondorf Fight, essentially skipping the entire game. How it works is beyond the scope of this description, however essentially we can influence what entrance the game pulls from an internal table. Blue warps are not the only way to do this as one can also use Trade Item timers and Farore's Wind, amongst other things, to achieve similar effects. As with Item Manipulation this is banned as it circumvents a lot of gameplay.

Void warps via the use of Farore’s Wind is not a WW, and is therefore allowed in No IM/WW rulesets and gameplay.

Guidelines for Advanced Logic

Because playing Ocarina of Time with glitches, even ones not so powerful as IM and WW, allows the player to do some crazy stuff and skip a lot of things, certain guidelines were put in place when considering how to handle the logic. There were 5 tenets that went into building the logic and they are as follows:

  1. Any trick or glitch must be infinitely repeatable to be considered in logic.
  2. Obscurity of a trick or glitch is not a factor in its inclusion, or how niche. If it has different item requirements and a dedicated setup that can be considered repeatable then it can be included
  3. Difficulty of a trick or glitch may be a factor.
    • Any trick which has a reliable setup can be considered regardless of its difficulty or precision.
    • Individual or grouped considerations will vary depending on impact to access
  4. In regards to hovering, only those which are incredibly common, obviously possible, or quite short will be considered.
    • A maximum of 20 bombs or 50 chus, with chus in logic, is the distance/height limit.
    • Some considerations for longer hovers which may require more than one type to obtain distance/height excluded potential locations to be part of hovering. This can be modified with continuous feedback from the community
  5. Bombchu bags and Blue Fire Arrows are enabled and the setting is hidden to prevent being turned off
    • Bombchu refills are explicitly required or expected for many explosive tricks. Having to buy refills or continually farm money for purchases is frustrating and does not contribute to the experience in a positive way. Therefore they will always be enabled
    • BFA allows the use of glitched damage to have blue fire, and therefore break mud walls which is especially useful for DC without explosives.. Usage of the GDV trick expects this behavior currently. Therefore BFA will always be considered on. This trick does not work on actual red ice as it requires the blue fire actor to function.

The following is not included or considered for logic:

  • Generalized Actor Push Clips
    • These are clips where actors such as bombs or small rocks push Link through seams or other actors. Unless a repeatable setup exists, these are not considered due to their extreme precision.
    • Unless otherwise specified (such as pot push) then refer to the trick list for applications that have inclusions
  • Out of Bounds Chu Hovers
    • These crash the game on N64 and emulator, thus are not considered in logic for any reason.
  • Item Duping
    • Duping Skulltula tokens, Keys, Heart Pieces, etc. by any means. This also includes bottle swiping as not applicable.
  • Extra Heart Pieces
    • 37th heart piece is not currently randomized and is not included in logic, even if any form of Entrance Randomizer is turned on. If this is picked up to account for heart piece win conditions, it is out of logic unless specifically enabled

As these guidelines are both fairly strict and fairly loose at the same time, a list of tricks/glitches which are possible and can be included in logic are the following:

Oddities

Because the game is so incredibly open and free under this logic settings there are many situations that you can find yourself in which could potentially softlock your game by not allowing you access to a specific check. These are listed below:

  • Any of the tricks/glitches mentioned above.
  • Collection delay such as Hold R or Gold Scale as child.
  • The Colossus hands chests (vanilla Mirror Shield and Silver Gauntlets) are considered part of Spirit Temple for hints. Until the hands are re-separated from spirit temple this behavior will mirror what the randomizer community decides.
  • Child Fire Temple and 1/16th Heart
    • Logically child isn't considered to have any access to Fire Temple other than what is currently allowed in glitchless logic which is 1) access to the entrance in ER settings and 2) the before boss room and open lava left side with the SoT block.
    • This can be re-considered in the future if there is sufficient ask as there are child-only setups for traversing the entirety of fire temple however it requires multiple fairies and equipswapping/duping bottles. This also would require consideration for child death ledge grabs which are not included in logic either.
    • For similar reasoning, 1/16th heart to stop the timer is also not considered in logic. The logic will refer to Fewer Tunic Requirements the same as glitchless logic.

Glitch Tricks (No IM/WW) that are labeled as “glitch”

Below is the current list of all enableable glitch logic tricks. There may be several tricks for the same access to a location or item, this is intentional as some tricks have varying item requirements, different Age set-ups and difficulty levels. If the trick is listed as both ages, then it can be expected to use the same setup and it was grouped together.

If the user has no preference then enable all for that specific location but be aware the generator may choose the lowest level requirements to access and can be expected.

Generalized Trick Groups for Glitched Playthrough

With more granular glitched logic, the following tricks have been broken out

  • Ocarina Items
    • When done improperly you can dupe a bottle over an item – USE AT YOUR OWN RISK
      • Ocarina items can be done with the following items: Bottle (Putaway OI),  Sticks, Slingshot, boomerang, Master Sword, Hammer, Bow, Elemental Arrows even without bow
    • If enabled, logic expects Putaway OI as it requires only the bottle and nothing else so that it is usable in more places such as Treasure Chest Minigame which can only use Putaway OI.
  • Equip Swap
    • With the update to the kaleidoscope menu, the inventory screen mirrors vanilla for equipswap. This trick hard requires an item in the last column to work as a safeguard for finding child tradequest items, and will provide one to be accessible for the ability to equipswap as either age.
  • Lunge Storage
  • Clipping (Generalized)
    • This includes damage clips, acute angle, squeezing thru some boulders without megaflips or other tech, and generalized known clips
  • Triple Slash Clips
  • Hovering with Explosives
  • Megaflips and Megasidehops
  • Superslides
  • Hyper Extended Superslide (HESS)
    • The use of this is dependent of changing angle for access locations that a normal superslide could not enter. The list for this is very small. Enabling this is not for those that want to only HESS across Hyrule Field
  • Glitched Damage Value via Empty Jumplsh or Quick Putaway (QPA)
    • Note that either method is valid, though in most scenarios assumes the ability to equipswap as adult to use sticks for QPA. If equipswap is not enabled then a ledge or ability to obtain empty jumpslash is considered on a location basis
  • Navi Dive
  • Weirdshots and Weirdslides
  • Hookshot Jumps
  • Ledgeclips
    • Note ledgeclips to enter dungeons are made separate individual options, this is to not affect ER settings unless specifically enabled and allow user preferences. Ledgeclips inside dungeons however are fair game.
  • Ledge cancel
  • Open Underwater Chests  (yes this is considered a glitch by speedrunning rules and is actually not something in glitchless logic)

Individual Tricks that can be enabled

  • Itemless Forest Escape
  • Pokey Escape (from Kokiri Forest)

Preset for “Base Glitched Logic”

This preset was aimed to provide a generalized experience of glitch usage in logic but without the perceived more challenging glitches. The reward conditions also support different styles of play to use glitches that are not enabled if preferred. Feel free to adjust the settings and keep the same tricks enabled for different experiences.

Less Common Maneuvers - Videos

This table consists of things which can be expected of the player logically and which are less common in the world of speedrunning, or aren't as widely known by the public. This list is NOT exhaustive of what's required, however simply serves to highlight some of the most esoteric things which aren't immediately obvious as possible to someone who otherwise has general knowledge of glitches in OoT.
